Nightclubbin’ on the South Side
Over the past year the South Shore
has really stepped up their nightlife scene, focusing on
high-tech advancements and great entertainment. Both major
casinos, Harrah’s and MontBleu (formerly Caesars) have undergone
extensive renovations to get their premier clubs up to speed.
Harrah’s Lake Tahoe
took Tahoe's South Shore by storm when they opened VEX last
June, which replaced the former Altitude Nightclub. VEX
introduces the latest in state-of-the-art club lighting, sound
and amazing special effects, making it a hot ticket. A three
million dollar renovation provides an expanded dance floor, new
VIP booths and cabanas that include plush seating, and advanced
VIP service and security. All of this is augmented with giant
video screens and a raised arching X catwalk over the dance
floor featuring dancers and entertainment, including gorgeous
aerial acrobatics. The club has already served as a party
platform for many celebrity VIPs. VEX’s weekly schedule
features: Locals Night every Thursday; Ladies Night every
Friday, where all ladies and South Lake Tahoe locals enjoy a
free cover charge and VIP seating for bachelorette parties. VEX
hosts themed party nights with some of the most popular guest
DJs in the business, along with hot live bands and showbiz
celebrities scheduled for special appearances. VEX is open
Thursday through Saturday beginning at 10 p.m. nightly for
adults age 21 and over. For more information or to reserve your
VIP Booth, call (775)586-6705.
Cabo Wabo Cantina is still rockin’
The Lake after more than three years at Harvey’s. Sammy Hagar's
popular hotspot offers a variety of appetizers and delectable
authentic entrées, such as fish tacos, chilé relleño lobster
burritos, chicken tamales and fajitas. After chowing down, the
cantina offers entertainment nightly in their lounge with two
full-service bars, a sexy wait staff and its very own blackjack
party pit. The Cabo Wabo Cantina stage includes The Jamie
Rollins Band every Monday, Jesse Kalin every Tuesday and Cool
Black Kettle every Thursday. Listen to your favorite club beats
with DJ Chris English every Sunday and Wednesday with a dance
contest on Wednesdays featuring a $100 prize. Their Red Rocker
room is also available for private functions. For more
information, call (775)588-2411.
Since it’s opening in 1987, Bill’s
Casino has been the home of the fun, casual, alternative
atmosphere. Their nightclub, Boost, opened this past spring and
continues to be popular amongst the wild and crazy and locals.
Thursday through Monday they offer a casual DJ dance party
featuring DJ R Boogie and DJ Bri. A new format for Boost
includes live music every weekend with $2 well drinks and
domestic beer and never a cover charge for ladies. For more
information, call (775)588-6611. To check out all of the above
clubs, visit

MontBleu spared no expense last
summer when they morphed out of being Caesars Tahoe to their new
incarnation, serving up two hotspots. Blu, their premier
nightclub, delivers the goods with special events, after parties
and killer VIP booth areas. A favorite "after-party" stop for
concertgoers, this club is a little different from the standard
club style with a very intimate, but not small, setting. The
first thing that strikes you when you walk thru the doors is the
soothing blue hues. Then there's the artist painting women, the
beds, the lush VIP booths, and of course, good music with a
flair for house styles, a nice change of pace from the standard
hip -hop and top 40 you often hear. Located where Club Nero once
stood, Blu features renowned DJs, who preside over a dance floor
that's ablaze with the latest technology in lights, sights, and
sound. Blu is a sexy blend of kinetic high energy and
tantalizing entertainment, plus there are exclusive promotions
just about every night. Live like a celebrity for a night in one
of Blu's VIP cabanas or with exclusive bottle service, both of
which are available by reservation. Blu is open Thursday through
Monday from 10 p.m.
MontBleu's answer to good food and
good times is Opal Eurasian Cuisine and Ultra Lounge. Redefining
Lake Tahoe dining and nightlife, guests move seamlessly from a
decadent meal into a sultry, intimate ultra lounge setting. Opal
will offer dozens of unique tapas and sushi, in addition to an
impressive martini, sake, wine and champagne list. Creating a
new take on the beauty of bartending, Opal features the
innovative concept of bar chefs, where bartenders visit
individual tables and infuse fresh ingredients and herbs into an
original beverage prepared before your eyes. Opal is the perfect
spot to decompress and re-energize your spirits before venturing
out for more good vibes. The decor is opulent, as the name
suggests, and the food and libations will satisfy even the most
discriminating epicurean. Surrounded in warm lights that swirl
around the entire room, Opal will satisfy those seeking an ultra
lounge experience to the fullest. As the sleek sushi and tapas
restaurant transforms into a hot ultra lounge, Opal will host
some of the top regional and national DJs from around the
country. The party will go until all hours of the night as
hookah pipes and bongos are made available and dancing on the
tables is highly encouraged. DJs spin deep house after 10 p.m.
Opal is for dinner and beyond Friday through Sunday. VIP tables,
private rooms and bottle service will be available by
reservation. Table reservations and bottle service for both Opal
and Blu can be made by call (775)586-2000, or for further
